In late May, the Santa Cruz City Council voted to approve the construction of a temporary arena in Downtown Santa Cruz to house the Santa Cruz Warriors — the Golden State Warriors D-League affiliate team.
Jim Weyermann, former Capitola resident and president of the Santa Cruz Warriors, said Santa Cruz is the perfect place to relocate the team because winter is slow in Santa Cruz County, and residents need a great family activity.
Thursday morning, the Warriors announced the complete season schedule for the Santa Cruz squad, which includes 24 games played locally. The first home game of the season will be Sunday, Dec. 23 at 5 p.m. against the Bakersfield Jam. The majority of home games will begin at 7 p.m.
