Soquel Elementary School Names New Principal

With an administrative vacancy created when Eric Gross took a position at the Santa Cruz City School District, the Soquel Union Elementary School District Board Of Trustees named Kathleen Fitzgerald as new principal of at a special meeting Wednesday.

Fitzgerald most recently taught at Gault Elementary School and Natural Bridges Elementary School in Santa Cruz. She was also the summer school principal at Gault in 2009 and 2010.

According to an official release from the Soquel Union Elementary School district, "for the last three years, [Fitzgerald] trained Santa Cruz teachers in Cognitively Guided Instruction, a math-professional-development program based on problem-solving."

Fitzgerald, a mother of two, is excited to enter this new phase of her educational career.

"I consider myself fortunate to have the opportunity to work with the strong staff and community at Soquel Elementary School and look forward to supporting all students and teachers in reaching their highest potential," she said. "Excellent teachers are the best asset we offer students in these challenging economic times."
