Local Schools Benefit from Mega-Millions Buyers

The California Lottery has contributed millions upon millions to local schools.

With the Mega-Millions , the lottery was on everyone's minds.

It had been weeks since anyone bought a winning ticket, but finally three people were on the money last Friday and were forced to split the pot.

But where do those ticket sales go? Much of it goes to fund public education. Turns out the exact dollar amount given to each county's schools is available on CALottery.com

Since 1985, Santa Cruz County public schools have received $162,455,697 from the California Lottery. Soquel Elementary School has received $6,819,736.80 in that time period, including $251,637.99 in 2011.
