City Looks to Fill Art & Cultural Commission Seat

There will be one vacancy starting in December.

The city of Capitola announced this week that it is looking for applicants to fill one seats on the Art & Cultural Commission.

The term of the unexpired seat is set to last until December 2013.

Applicants must be at least 18, interested in guiding and promoting artistic and cultural activities and should, preferably, be Capitola residents.

Applications may be picked up at City Hall and must be submitted by June 7. Final appointment to the commission will be made at the Capitola City Council meeting on June 27.

According to the Capitola Municipal Code, the Art & Cultural Commission serves the following purposes:

  • Advises the City Council as to the allocation of public funds for the support and encouragement of existing and new programs in the arts, and for the acquisition by purchase, gift or otherwise of works of art.
  • Subject to City Council approval, initiates, sponsors or directs special programs, which will enhance the cultural climate of the city.
  • Establishes a close liaison with other commissions and civic organizations in order to foster public interest in the arts.
  • Advises the City Council concerning the implentation and interpretation of the city's established policies and practices, including the art and cultural master plan, as they relate to the Art & Cultural Commission's objectives.

The commission meets at city hall on the second Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m.
