Soquel Creek Body Was Watsonville Man

Christaan Dewaard had a history of seizures and alcoholism and died of an accidental drowning.

The Santa Cruz County coroner's office reported Friday that the body of a man found floating in Soquel Creek in Capitola on Nov. 30 has been identified as Christian Dewaard of Watsonville.

Investigators determined that Dewaard, 47, died from an accidental drowning during heavy rainstorms that hit the Central Coast recently, the coroner's office reported.

Dewaard's body was recovered after a passerby observed it at about 11 a.m. floating in Soquel Creek just west of the Nob Hill Foods store at 809
