A routine traffic stop turned a bit hairy for Capitola Police Saturday afternoon when guns and ammunition were found on an out-of-state criminal.
Officers Chris Thompson and Brantly Sandretty stopped a man on the 1200 block of 41st Avenue just after 3 p.m. for traffic violations.
"During their investigation, they located a loaded .40 caliber firearm and a tactical shotgun inside the vehicle," Capitola Sgt. Mark Gonzalez said in a prepared statement.
The driver of the car was James Stuart Finnie, a 50-year-old man from Boise, Idaho. The officers found that Finnie, a felon, has already been barred from possessing firearms.
According to police, he was booked into Santa Cruz County Jail for an outstanding warrant, prohibited person in possession of ammunition, carrying a loaded firearm, and felon in possession of a firearm.
