Knife Slashed Murder Victim's Arteries, Autopsy Shows

Ronald "Aaron" Carpenter was killed on Sunday, Dec. 11.

Autopsy results have shed more light on the , who was slain late Sunday night.

The coroner has concluded that Carpenter, 36, died of a puncture wound to the neck that severed both the jugular vein and carotid artery, Assistant District Attorney Celia Rowland has told Capitola-Soquel Patch. The knife found at the scene is consistent with the wound to Carpenter's neck. 

Marcos Chavez, 23, was arrested at the Virgil Lane site of the homicide in Capitola early Monday morning.

Meanwhile, an , as well as the relationship between Carpenter and Chavez, is still ongoing.

Carpenter was an army veteran as well as an EMT in training, who planned to move to Hawaii at the end of the year. His memorial is planned for Jan. 4 in Oregon.

Chavez, currently in county jail, will appear in court on the morning of Jan. 5, when he is expected to enter a plea.
