Brothers Arrested After Nine-Month Burglary Spree

The Santa Cruz Sheriff's Department arrested two heroin users this week on multiple residential burglary charges.

After committing nine months of residential burglaries spanning the San Lorenzo Valley, Santa Cruz Watsonville and Soquel, Larry Smith and Brandon Smith, 20 and 18 respectively, were arrested by the Santa Cruz Sheriff's Department this month.

The Smith brothers, both Santa Cruz residents, are now being investigated for other unsolved burglaries as well, according to an official statement from the Santa Cruz Sheriff's Office.

"During the spring, residents in the San Lorenzo Valley contacted the Felton Service Center concerned about the volume of burglaries that were occurring," the statement said. The burglaries continued county-wide through November until a surveillance system caught Brandon Smith on camera. He was arrested on Nov. 15, and his brother met the same fate on Nov. 22 after his involvement was confirmed.
