Dominican Hospital Gets Tech Savvy

Physicians are now sharing digital images with patients.

Contributed by Dominican Hospital:

Dominican Hospital has launched a unique program that gives patients another way to directly participate in their own care.

Physicians on the medical staff at Dominican Hospital now have the ability to share radiology images with patients at the bedside via mobile devices. The system not only helps physicians access images faster, but also serves as a crucial tool for patient education.

“Being able to bring iConnect anywhere with me means less time sitting in front of a desktop and more time with the patient at the beside,” said Francisco Rhein, MD, hospitalist and Clinical Informatics Medical Director at Dominican Hospital. “Patients really appreciate the ability to look at images and participate in their care.”

Spearheaded by Dominican’s Radiology Department, the iConnect system interfaces with the current hospital records system to present X-ray, ultrasound and other diagnostic images on any browser-based device. This includes Apple, Android, and Microsoft-based mobile platforms as well as desktop computers.

iConnect is intuitive, completely secure and 100 percent web-based. Previously, physicians could not send patient images to mobile devices due to privacy concerns. The iConnect system is supported by Dignity Health and is HIPAA compliant. Dominican is one of the first hospitals in the Dignity Health system to implement this service.
