Thomas Kinkade Died of Alcohol and Drug Overdose

The famed painter with a Capitola gallery died on April 6.

Just over a month since the  in Los Gatos, his cause of death has been revealed.

According to the , Kinkade's autopsy report shows that he "died of accidental acute intoxication from alcohol and an anti-anxiety medication."

The Santa Clara County Coroner's Office called the death accidental.

Kinkade, the "Painter of Light" was just 54. According to his brother Patrick Kinkade, in the final years of his life the painter struggled with the separation from his wife and had battled alcoholism for years.

The Huffington Post reports that "art galleries reported a surge in sales of Kinkade's paintings following his death." His remains open and is operating normally.

According to , there was a private memorial ceremony for Kinkade in April.
