Other than the usual NIMBY and police scare stories about "drugs", do we have any stats…Read More about real crime before this public space was made less hospitable for poor people and homeless people? Not necessary, right? Why treat them as human beings when you can use Drug War and "Illegal Camper" labels to treat them like scum?

I used to love to walk along the creek, either way, with my husband and dog. The dog loved to swim…Read More there or just slosh along, playing. We'd have a picnic down there and just relax and watch the dog and our grandchildren play there. That was BEFORE the shortcut bike/walk bridge was built. It was safe down there then, even in the woodsy areas. We'd see kids jumping off low hanging tree branches into the creek. THEN the bridge came in and the creek was cut off from neighborhood use. Then the druggies and messy encampments took over. I've looked down from the bridge and witnessed drug deals going on down there, and questionable looking people on what was left of the picnic benches. The idea of the shortcut was good, but it had unfortunate side effects.

I think this was a good idea because they were not attractive there anyway. I have recently stopped…Read More using the bridge that goes over the creek, next to Rispin Mansion to take the shortcut through to Wharf Road, as it feels too isolated and unsafe for a solo walk. Not that I've seen any reportable activity, it is just a feeling. Would be curious how Capitola police and city council feel about that area in general. Safe or no?

Thank you, I saw you hiding and a car with a young man driving had passed me doing at least 55 in…Read More a 35 mile zone. You didn't even look at him! Oh well, like I have been told, "you can't catch them all!" Just you! LOL. But I will watch for you and my speed!

Thank You to all agencies and officers for paying special attention to creating a safer atmosphere…Read More on Soquel. As an Aptos resident who lives right off Soquel, I am witness every day to unsafe drivers who are blatantly disregarding the 35/25mph limits. I hope this kind of presence can occur more frequently. It is GREATLY appreciated!!

Firearms are expensive, one should consider selling them through consignment at a gun store. You may…Read More 1) make a lot more than nothing and 2) someone that needs a firearm could legally purchase it.

It deeply pisses me off, Brad, when I try to submit a comment, am diverted to a login page and find…Read More my comment erased when I get logged on. Fix that.
Anyway, Alissa, you had $3000 cash in your car why?

Laura, police and other emergency personnel are exempt from the hand-held law. They often don't want…Read More to tie up the radio in times of heavy radio traffic and they also don't want some information broadcast over the radio that can be heard by anyone with a scanner. However, that doesn’t mean that they are using their cell phones legally every time. People should make sure that the Police Chief communicates down through the ranks that people are watching them and that they need to be the most rigorous of official non-users.

I was happy to read this. A question I have though is who polices the police who are guilty of the…Read More same infraction? Not to take away from the effectiveness of the awareness, but it seems rather hypocritical to cite people when there are officers breaking the same laws they are ticketing others for. In the last couple weeks I have seen three separate officers texting on their cell phones while in their cars at a stop light. Who gives them a citation??

Thank you Dave!!! I completely and totally agree that while driving, you should be doing just…Read More that..driving! Vehicles can become deadly weapons in an instant with their high rate of speed, close proximity to all that's around them, weather elements and other hazardous factors-we sure don't need to be distracted in addition to all that! Thx!
