Esplanade Hosting Wally's Swing World Concert Wednesday

Wednesday night is all about the big band in Capitola Village, as Wally's Swing World is kicking off the with a show on the Esplanade.

The free show, which runs from 6 to 8 p.m. with first-come-first-served seating, features the local septet fronted by Wally Trindade on lead vocals. He is backed up by a guitar, bass, piano, drums and three horns.

Wally's Swing World has been performing together since 1991, and according to the band's website, they frequently play Santa Cruz happy hours and at Severino's in Aptos. 

Their repertoire includes Rat Pack classics as well as songs from Benny Goodman, Glenn Miller and more.

"The band steps into a more 'modern' mode with the tunes of Bobby Darin, Elvis Presley and other 50s rock favorites," the website says. "Wally and the band heat things up with a little Latin jazz, samba, salsa and bossa nova, and cool things down with smooth 'n' easy lounge numbers from Burt Bacharach, Stan Getz and Henry Mancini."

Over the last 20 years, the group has gotten recognition from major papers like the San Francisco Chronicle and San Jose Mercury News.

"Believe it or not, one of the hottest acts ... these days is Wally's Swing world, a full tuxedo, seven-piece band with Sinatra sound-alike Wally Trindade," the Chronicle reported.

Already over the last two months, the band has played Severino's, the Fairmont Hotel in San Jose and Gordon Biersch in San Jose. Catch them for free Wednesday night in Capitola Village. Learn more about the group here.
