Aptos Grad Bobby Crocker Comes Out Swinging in A's Farm System

Crocker was drafted by the Oakland Athletics in the fourth round of the MLB Draft in June.

On June 7, Aptos High School graduate Bobby Crocker was in the fourth round of the MLB draft.

He has since signed with Oakland and been assigned to the Arizona Rookie League, playing for the AZL Athletics. The Arizona Rookie League plays a 56-game season from June until the end of August.

While Crocker's AZL Athletics are dwelling at the bottom of the standings at 5-10, the Santa Cruz County native is a bright spot, not just on the team but throughout the league.

In his first game with the club, Crocker went 3-4 with a run. Now with 10 games under his professional belt, he is hitting .371 with two doubles and three triples. His batting average is good enough for 12th overall in the entire 247-man league.

Just as in his recently completed junior year at Cal Poly, Crocker has yet to commit an error this season.

The one scar on his statistics so far: Crocker was caught stealing the one base he attempted to snag.

"I think he has the tools and skills to [make the Majors]," Crocker's high school coach Randy Kramer said the day he was drafted. "I have no doubt he'll make it to the Big Leagues, barring injuries."

Should his hot start translate into a tear through the Minor Leagues, Kramer's prediction might just come true.
