Whiz Kid: Nate Werdmuller of Soquel Elementary School

This week, Patch honors whiz kid Nate Werdmuller from Soquel Elementary School for his academic excellence.

Whiz kids features remarkable kids from the community who have excelled in sports, academics, creativity, community involvement, innovation, sports, drama and more. Patch is always looking for the next star pupil to feature, so if you have someone in mind, let us know, and your student, child, friend or acquaintance could be Patch's next whiz kid!

Whiz Kid: Nate Werdmuller, 10

School: Soquel Elementary School

Accomplishment: Nate won the school spelling bee and qualified for the county science fair.

Key to Awesomeness: “I don’t think that I’m different than any other kids. I like to do my best and I really like school. The funny thing is, I didn’t really study for the spelling bee. But, I love books and read for about an hour every night. Science is always fun. My science fair project was about basketball. I love hoops and I want to play for Soquel High. I really hope that I can get into Cal Berkeley to play baseball or basketball and study to be a sports medic. If I could give any other kid in elementary school advice, it would be to work hard and have fun doing it.”
