Soquel Basketball Teams Playing For League Championship

Both the boys and girls team will compete on Saturday at Kaiser Permanente Arena in Santa Cruz.

Soquel High has the opportunity to claim a basketball monopoly this weekend with both the boys and girls teams vying for the league championship.

The SCCAL crown is up for grabs and the Knights are poised to take it home to mid-county. The girls team will face off against Scotts Valley at 6 p.m. and the boys will tip-off afterwards against Santa Cruz High School.

Both games will be played at the brand new Kaiser Permanente Arena in downtown Santa Cruz, home of the NBA D-League Santa Cruz Warriors.

The Warriors announced on Thursday that they had readied the court for the games, moving the three-point line in to high school range, several feet closer to the hoop than the D-League three-point line.

The boys finished with a league record of 10-1, losing only to Aptos back on Jan. 23. The girls, meanwhile, were a perfect 12-0 in league play and an outstanding 23-2 overall. MaxPreps shows the girls ranked 147th in the state.
