New Cabrillo Gym is 'Best in the County'

Early bird enrollment fee deals now through August 26.

Precision Wellness Center, a state-of-the-art Wellness facility has opened its doors in the heart of the Cabrillo College campus. Before that, the building sat unused for three years.

"This is bond money that they had a few years ago to build the facility. What they didn't have was a budget to run the facility, because the budgets have all been cut because the economy took a dive," said Jamey Harris, manager at Precision Wellness Center.

"So the solution they came up with was to privatize it so that they could still have the facility be open for students and staff," said Harris.

Now, the 11,000-square-foot facility beckons them in, with high ceilings, dozens of brand new machines, and a beautiful group exercise room. The best part is that students and staff who stared at the empty building for three years get major discounts.

Although it looks like a beautiful new gym just waiting for students, staff, weekend warriors and serious athletes, it's more than just your average gym.

"It's the best in the county," Harris said, noting that the Wellness Center is the perfect place for anybody who is seeking rehabilitation from injury, sports performance and one-on-one training.

Owners James Vegher and Chris Christensen have run a Precision Wellness Physical Therapy office in Soquel for eight years, and their expertise shines through as the philosophy behind this new gym.

"Because we're physical therapists and we emphasize movement it's ideal for people on any level of the fitness spectrum, from physical therapy to specific sports training," said Vegher.

Members can choose between a basic membership, which covers the workout room or the exercise room and all of it's classes, or an all encompassing membership which includes both, as well as the supreme services—which is where the physical therapy aspects really come in.

"We'll have sports enhancement programs that are specific to your sport, so they'll be specific to soccer or baseball," said Vegher.

They've also developed a new course called Precision Mechanics.

"It's a small group class run by a doctor or physical therapist that is designed to facilitate more ideal patterns of movement in the body. It's a class similar to pilates but the movements are different and we emphasize proper activation of the core," said Vegher.

Vegher says he is thrilled to have the opportunity to work with students and staff at Cabrillo.

Classes include everything from yoga and pilates to senior's fitness class, Zuumba, and body sculpting.

From now until August 26 is the "Pre-Enrollment" period. Stop by and take a tour with running coach and massage therapist Jamey Harris on Monday, Wednseday or Friday from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. or Tuesday and Thursdays from 3 p.m. - 6 p.m.
