Local Schools Suspend Fewer Students Than State Average

Data from schools across California shows that suspension and expulsion rates in Capitola, Soquel and Aptos are low.

Although the accused of white supremacist activities last spring was highly publicized, it turns out that such disciplinary action is somewhat rare at the school. The same can be said for the majority of schools in Capitola, Soquel and Aptos.

According to the Sacramento Bee, in 2010, California school districts averaged "about three expulsions and 114 suspensions per 1,000 students." Among the local high schools, middle schools and elementary schools listed below, the expulsion rate is slightly higher than the state average (4.5 per 1,000 students), but the suspension rate is lower (104.5 per 1,000 students).

At Aptos High School, nearly three times as many students were expelled and suspended as those from . When excluding Aptos High School and Aptos Junior High from the list, the suspension rate falls dramatically, down to just 55.2 suspensions per 1,000 students.
