Last Wednesday, December 5, Ed Bottorff was sworn into the Capitola City Council.
Bottorff, a Republican, worked for the Alameda County Fire Department for 30 years. Upon his retirement, he moved to Capitola, volunteering in several community organizations such as the Capitola-Soquel Chamber of Commerce and the General Plan Advisory Committee.
His platform included improving the appearance of the Esplanade and a potential hotel at the old Theater Capitola site.
With 35.7 percent of the vote, Bottorff won one of two seats in the Capitola City Council, his first term. A spot also went to Dennis Norton, who won 33.7 percent of the vote for his second term in a row.
