Sam Farr's Seat Cost over $730K

Find out how much Rep. Sam Farr's campaign cost compared to the average.

Rep. Sam Farr, whose 20th District includes Capitola, Soquel and Aptos, easily won re-election last fall.

But how much did his House seat cost him?

Campaigns cost money—most of the time lots of it. In terms of dollars and cents, Farr raised $735,679 during the 2012 election cycle, according to MapLight, a non-profit that tracks money in politics.

That figure is quite low: the average House member raised $1,689,580, or $2,315 a day, according to MapLight.

Not surprised, discouraged. "Free" elections certainly aren't and contributors usually demand specific results geared toward their "special interest". Political parties dictate the agenda and pay only for those legislators who stick to the "party line". Unfortunately for our republic, the chasm between the haves and have-nots increases every election cycle and the voice of the People is drowned out by professional ideologues.
