New Mayor to Be Named at Thursday Council Meeting

The Capitola City Council will undergo a change in leadership on Thursday evening.

Thursday's meeting of the Capitola City Council is set to be full of goodbyes, including the retirement of two long-time city staff members, as well as the end of Dennis Norton's tenure as mayor.

The expected highlights of the meeting are as follows:

  • Mayor Dennis Norton will make proclamations of retirement honoring City Clerk Pam Greeninger, who served 37 years, and Maintenance Superintendent Ed Morrison, who was with the city for 32 years.
  • A public hearing led by the Community Development Department will be held to discuss the 41st Avenue/Capitola Mall Re-Visioning Plan. Included in the plan are a remodel of the 41st Avenue side of the mall, a landmark building at the corner of Capitola Road and 41st Avenue and improved sidewalks and bike paths.
  • The council will select a new mayor and vice mayor. Outgoing Mayor Norton will be honored with a presentation, followed by his outgoing words.
  • The newly-chosen mayor, likely current Vice Mayor Michael Termini, will bring the meeting to a close with his comments.
