He was, in fact, born 50 years ago today in Honolulu, Hawaii. Official celebrations started yesterday with two high-profile soirees in Chicago featuring performances by Jennifer Hudson, Herbie Hancock and OK Go. Tickets went for a mere $35,800 per couple to be in the presence of musical and political royalty.
Back in 2008, 77.8 percent of Santa Cruz County voted for Obama, well above the national average (53.4 percent). Nearly three years later, America's birthday gift to the man in charge is a 42 percent approval rating, just two points higher than his all-time low, thanks to the debt ceiling debate.
