City Council Meets in Closed Session Tuesday to Discuss Rent Control Suits

The council is set to meet at 5 p.m.

The city of Capitola announced Monday afternoon that the City Council will meet with legal counsel in closed session at 5 p.m. Tuesday in the city manager's office.

According to a notice from the city, the meeting will pertain to the following cases:

1. Surf and Sand, LLC vs. City of Capitola, et al. (Case No. CV 167716)

2. Surf and Sand, LLC vs. City of Capitola, et al. (Case No. C09-05542)

3. Bill Newman, et al (park residents) vs. Surf and Sand, LLC (Case No. CV 171783)

4. Surf and Sand, LLC; Ronald Reed, Cross-Complaintants vs. City of Capitola (Case No. CV 171783)

This closed session comes days after residents of Surf and Sand Mobile Home Park were served with a subpoena to appear in Santa Cruz Superior Court on Monday regarding case No. CV 171783. They were asked by HKC, the firm representing Surf and Sand owner Ron Reed, to produce an extensive list of documents, including leases and all email communication pertaining to rent control.
