Capitola Settles Insurance Claim Two Years After Floods

The city's insurance company agrees to pay out $1.35 million.

The City of Capitola is finally getting some relief from the floods in March 2011 that stormed through Capitola Village and destroyed two mobile homes.

The city's insurance company, Lexington Insurance, has agreed to pay $1.35 million, according to report from the Santa Cruz Sentinel. The payout will help cover most of the costs associated with the flood. The city paid $1.5 million.

The flooding was precipitated by a ruptured pipe carrying Noble Gulch Creek under Bay Avenue, according to city officials. Knee-deep water rushed throgh Capitola Village and forced the evacuation of Pacific Cove Mobile Home Park.
