California will be well-represented today for the start of the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, which climaxes with a speech by Michelle Obama.
Los Angeles Mayor Antonio R. Villaraigosa, Chair of the 2012 Democratic National Convention Committee, took part in the “gaveling in” of the permanent chair shortly before 3 p.m. Rep. Barbara Lee then spoke and Rep. Xavier Becerra, from Los Angeles County is scheduled to speak shortly before 6 p.m.
The first lady will take the podium at 7 p.m. Music fans may want to take note that Ledisi, a former Cal student, will be singing sometime between Michelle Obama’s speech and the Jimmy Carter video.
