Week in Review: Capitola Homicide Edition

Capitola had its first murder within city limits since 2003 last week.

The talk of the town last week was certainly Sunday's fatal stabbing at 3207
Virgil Lane in Capitola. It was the first homicide within city limits since 2003, and the first investigation of its kind that the Capitola Police Department has been a part of since a dead body was left at Soquel High School in the summer of 2010.

On Sunday, Dec. 11, Marcos Chavez, 23 was arrested at the bloody scene of the stabbing and booked for homicide after , 36, of Capitola. By Wednesday, Capitola Police Chief Tom Held reported that the investigation . The coroner released the cause of death on Friday, stating that Carpenter died of a . It appears Chavez and Carpenter from a work-study program at the veterans center in Capitola. 

In other crime news, Herbal Cruz, a local medical marijuana dispensary, was . The masked men made off with $1000 in cash and 10 pounds of marijuana. The crime occurred after Granny Purps, another dispensary on 41st Avenue, for its joints-for-canned-food exchange.
