Two People Arrested on Drug Charges in Soquel

Man reportedly answered the door with a meth pipe in his hand.

Santa Cruz Sherriff deputies arrested two people already on probation on suspicion of drug charges in Soquel on Thursday,  the Sheriff's Office reported.

Acting on a tip about suspected drug activity at the home, deputies conducted a probation search at the 2700 block of Soquel on San Jose Rd., deputies said.

When deputies arrived at the house, they found Joylyn Robbins, 52, sitting in a parked car in the driveway where she allegedly had a small amount methamphetamine. Robbins, who is on probation, was arrested for possession of methamphetamine and probation violation, deputies stated.

Deputies went to the front door and John Chulian, 30, answered with a loaded meth pipe in his hand, the Sheriff's Office reported. Chulian was later arrested on suspicion of possessing methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia, as well as a probation violation.

“It was a good job by the deputies,” Sgt. Mark Yanez said. “Some suspicious activity was reported and they went out and took care of the problem.”

Robbins, who was on probation for a misdemeanor, is eligible to post bond, Yanez said. Her bail is $15,000. However, Chulian is not eligible to post bond because his probation was the result of a felony, Yanez said.

Robbins and Chullian are expected to go to court around early next week, Yanez said. But neither will have a trial because there is no search issue. Both Robbins and Chulian were on probation and subject to searches, Yanez said.
