Three Local Elementary Schools Burglarized

Computers were targeted at two Live Oak schools and one Watsonville School early Tuesday.

A rash of break-ins plagued Santa Cruz County elementary schools in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Attempted burglaries occurred across the county, with computers either stolen or attempted to be stolen at Live Oak Elementary School, Mar Vista Elementary School and Bradley Elementary School in Watsonville.

"Mar Vista Elementary School’s library window was smashed to gain entry and the suspect tried to steal numerous computers," Sheriff's Deputy April Skalland said. "The computers were chained together and the suspect was unable to steal anything, but there was considerable damage that occurred during the attempt to steal the computers."

At Live Oak Elementary, a computer and a printer were stolen from the staff lounge, and other parts of the school were attempted to be entered as well, Skalland said.

Nothing was successfully taken from Bradley Elementary, but at 2:45 a.m. deputies were dispatched to the school after an alarm went off. They found a computer had been moved in the office but nothing was stolen.
