Surfer Dies at Pleasure Point

Authorities have confirmed the first surfing death in the county since 1995.

A surfer found dead off Pleasure Point has been identified as Scott Woodworth, 60, of Ben Lomond.

According to KSBW, Woodworth was surfing in the evening on Monday when another surfer found his limp body in the water.

Paramedics took Woodworth and his nine-foot board to shore and the Santa Cruz Sentinel reports that he was pronounced dead at 6:24 p.m.

"They suspect he may have died from a heart attack," the KSBW report said. "Santa Cruz County Sheriff's deputies said the Ben Lomond man could have also died from blunt force trauma to his head."
