Soquel and 41st to Burn for Fire Training This Weekend

Don't be alarmed if you see open flames and emergency vehicles on Saturday and Sunday.

Don't be alarmed this weekend if you see big flames, firetrucks and firefighters at the intersection of Soquel Drive and 41st Avenue.

Both days (Saturday, July 14 and Sunday, July 15), from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m., several vacant buildings at that location will be burned for structural firefighting training.

"This is a controlled training exercise used to give firefighters a chance to sharpen their skills under realistic fire conditions. " Central Fire Spokesman Mike DeMars said in a prepared statement.
