Showers in Capitola-Soquel Forecast for Wednesday Evening, Thursday

The chance of showers was expected to increase to 70 percent for Thursday, according to forecasters.

The chance of rain showers will loom Wednesday evening and Thursday for the Capitola-Soquel area and Santa Cruz County, according to the National Weather Service.

There was a 50 percent chance of showers Wednesday afternoon for Capitola and Soquel, decreasing to 30 percent for Wednesday evening, forecasters said.

The chance of showers was expected to increase to 70 percent for Thursday, according to the Weather Service.

Overnight lows for Capitola and Soquel from Wednesday to Thursday were expected to dip to below 40, and the daytime high Thursday was expected in the low 50s, forecasters said.

Public viewing of the caskets for fallen Santa Cruz police Sgt. Loran "Butch" Baker and Officer Elizabeth Butler is scheduled from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. March 6 at Santa Cruz Memorial, 1927 Ocean St., according to the City of Santa Cruz.

A memorial service for Baker and Butler is planned at noon March 7 at HP Pavilion in San Jose. A motorcade of Santa Cruz County fire, law and emergency vehicles will leave the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk around 8:45 a.m., heading through Santa Cruz to northbound Highway 17.

Thousands are expected, said Santa Cruz Police Chief Kevin Vogel. The memorial will be broadcast at Kaiser Arena, home of the Santa Cruz Warriors, in Santa Cruz for those who can't attend the San Jose service.
