Sheriff to Soquel Residents: Lock Out Nighttime Burglars

It sounds creepy that someone would sneak into your home while you're asleep, but it happens. In fact, it's happened in Soquel twice in the past month, according to the Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Department.

The most recent incident came Tuesday at a home on Bay Heights Drive in Soquel. Residents reported the home had been burglarized during the night and when they woke up they found several items missing. Deputies determined the suspect entered through an unlocked door.

A similar account was reported April 18 on Fairway Drive in Soquel. Again, the suspect is believed to have entered through an unlocked door while the family was sleeping.

The Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Department is warning residents to make sure their doors and windows are locked when they're not at home or asleep.
