Police Crackdown Keeps Capitola Drinkers Safe on St. Patrick's Day

There was not a single public intoxication arrest in Capitola on March 17.

On St. Patrick's Day — one of the booziest holidays all year — the streets of Capitola were safe.

According to police, there was not a single public intoxication arrest in Capitola over the weekend.

Reinforcements were sent down to the Village for St. Patrick's Day weekend and were patrolling all day Saturday and Sunday to make sure people stayed safe.

Similar crackdowns happen on Cinco de Mayo and Independence day.

There was just one drunk in public arrest in Capitola on St. Patrick's Day in 2012, and it wasn't even in the Village, police said.

Along with the increased police presence, having the beer drinking holiday fall on a Sunday likely contributed to the calm weekend.
