Update: Pedestrian Killed on Hwy. 17 Saturday Stepped into Road, Was Struck by Hyundai

The Saturday morning fatal crash occurred near the Pasatiempo Overcrossing.

A pedestrian was killed on southbound state Highway 17 near Pasatiempo Drive Saturday morning when he stepped into the road, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The unidentified male pedestrian was walking on the eastern edge of the highway just north of Pasatiempo around 4:20 a.m. when he stepped into the roadway for an unknown reason, according to CHP Officer Gavin Hansen.

He was struck by a gold Hyundai Sonata driven by a 30-year-old Scotts Valley man, Hansen said. The pedestrian died of his injuries at the scene.

The collision remains under investigation.

The California Highway Patrol is investigating a collision on state Highway 17 in Santa Cruz early this morning that left one person dead.

The collision occurred around 4:20 a.m. on southbound Highway 17 near the Pasatiempo Overcrossing, according to the CHP.

 No further information was immediately available.
