Motor Home Sewage Drained on Portola Drive

Three people in a motor home drained their wastewater onto Portola Drive this morning.

Hazardous materials were reported at 3701 Portola Dr. in Live Oak Wednesday around 11:28 a.m., and as firefighters arrived at the scene, they found wastewater all over the roadway.

Central Fire Department spokesman Mike DeMars said three people occupying a motor home parked on Portola Drive  realized their waste tank was full and decided then and there to drain it out on the street.

After hearing of the roadway hazard, DeMars said a fire engine was sent out to lay some adsorbent on the roadway and try to prevent the wastewater from leaking into the storm drains and bay.

DeMars said the names of the offenders are unknown at this time, and whether any criminal charges could be pressed against the dirty trio is still up in the air.

If there are charges, DeMars said it would be by the county's Environmental Health Services department, which oversees such matters.

DeMars said the mess was cleaned up around 2:30 p.m. and that he believes all the sewage was caught before it leaked into storm drains and the bay.
