Memorial For Fallen SCPD Officers Is March 7

Thousands are expected at Kaiser Permanente Arena, home of the Santa Cruz Warriors.

A memorial for Det. Sgt. Loran "Butch" Baker and Det. Elizabeth Butler will be held at 11 a.m. March 7 at Kaiser Arena, home of the Santa Cruz Warriors, on lower Front Street.

Thousands are expected, said Santa Cruz Police Chief Kevin Vogel. Overflow seating will be at Santa Cruz Civic Auditorium, 307 Church St. in Santa Cruz.

Vogel said that might not even be enough space for all mourners expected to attend. More details will be released as the event draws closer.

There will be a motorcade that day, starting at the Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds in Watsonville and traveling to the arena, that if it follows similar memorials, will bring in thousands of law enforcement and public safety officials from all over the state.
