Man Who Killed Himself at Capitola City Hall ID'ed

Police identified the man as Leroy Raby, 74, of San Jose.

The man who died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head on Monday night has been identified as Leroy Raby, a San Jose area resident, Capitola Police Detective Marquis Booth told Capitola-Soquel Patch on Wednesday.

Raby, 74, , just 10 feet from the council chambers entrance. 

He left a note in his car, also parked in the same lot, asking that his son be notified. Booth said that the remaining contents of the note will not be released.

Authorities remain unclear as to why Raby chose 400 Capitola Ave. as the nucleus of the incident. 

"We don't really know why he picked the location other than wanting to be away from where he lived," Booth said. "That's pretty much all we can conclude at this point."

According to the Santa Cruz Sentinel, "there was no indication the suicide was tied to any issue the man had with the city or city government."
