Man Survives 20-Foot Fall from Roof

A Soquel man narrowly escaped a major accident on Tuesday afternoon.

A Soquel man survived a long fall Tuesday afternoon that could have ended in disaster.

The 44-year-old was working on his roof at Shauna Court and Soquel-San Jose Road at 1:20 when he "slipped and fell and got caught up in a fence," Central Fire Spokesman Mike DeMars told Capitola-Soquel Patch.

When Central Fire personnel arrived, he was conscious, breathing and complaining of back pain, but had no obvious injuries, despite the 20-foot fall.

DeMars said the man was airlifted to a hospital as a precaution due to the length of the fall.

The situation could have been much worse, as no one else was there to aid the victim before the Central Fire crew arrived. Luckily, just the victim's clothes caught on the fence.

"He could have gotten impaled if he wound up on a picket or something," DeMars said.
