Man Shot in Leg near Capitola Village

One man suffered a wound to the leg, but he would not cooperate with police.

Emergency crews flew a gunshot victim by helicopter to a trauma center Wednesday evening after police found the man with a bullet wound on his leg.

Capitola Police responded to a report of shots fired on the 5000 block of Cliff Drive, just over the Stockton Bridge from Capitola Village, at 6:13 p.m. Upon arrival, they found Isaias Escobar Flores with a single gunshot wound.

Both Flores and another man on scene were uncooperative with police when questioned about the circumstances that led up to the shooting, Sgt. Marquis Booth said.

Police suspect the shooting to be gang-related. Capitola Police detectives and the Santa Cruz County Gang Task Force are investigating the shooting, Booth said.

No arrests have been made and Flores's injury is not considered life-threatening.
