Man Kidnaps Ex-Lover at Knifepoint

A Capitola man was arrested late Monday for forcing his ex-boyfriend to buy alcohol under the threat of violence.

Ian Joseph Slavonia, 22, of Capitola, was taken into police custody late Monday night after a dispute with his ex-boyfriend, the Capitola Police Department reported in a prepared statement.

The incident started at a residence on the 1900 block of 46th Avenue when Slavonia forced his ex-boyfriend into a vehicle while threatening him with a kitchen knife, the victim told police.

From there, the victim said he was instructed to drive to a store on the 800 block of Bay Avenue to buy alcohol for Slavonia.

Once the victim was able to escape, he called for help, police said. During their investigation, police were able to locate the kitchen knife used in the kidnapping.

Slavonia was arrested and taken to Santa Cruz County Jail on charges of brandishing a weapon, kidnapping and criminal threats.
