Man Arrested in Soquel on Rape Charge

Ossiel Castillo, 19, was jailed for the alleged attack on a road in Corralitos.

Ossiel Castillo, 19, of Santa Cruz, was arrested on Tuesday afternoon in Soquel for attempting lewd acts on a child younger than 14.

Castillo had gone out drinking with a group of friends around 9 p.m. the night before the arrest, Sheriff's Deputy April Skalland told Patch. He then met a 14-year-old girl on a road in Corralitos and attempted to rape her.

"Later that night, she reported it, and investigators got on it and arrested him," Skalland said. "It was a pretty quick, thorough thing. Usually these things take a lot of time. This one was very quick."

Castillo was arrested at 2:30 p.m. at his workplace, Design Octaves in Soquel, at 2701 Research Park Dr. He is being held on $100,000 bail.

Investigators do not believe there are any other victims, but anyone with further information regarding Castillo or the case is encouraged to call the Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Department at 831-454-2311.
