Highway 1 Suicide Victim Was from Soquel

The man who walked into traffic Wednesday has been identified.

The victim of Wednesday's Highway 1 crash has been identified as Arthur Muniz, 63, of Soquel.

Muniz in the right lane of the highway just south of Park Avenue in Capitola at 7:56 a.m.

Traffic was backed up for several hours as the scene was cleared and investigated.

Muniz was struck by a truck and killed instantly. Fire personnel were called off before they even arrived because Muniz was dead when first responders arrived on scene.

Wednesday's incident marked the fifth public suicide in mid-county since the start of last year. In March of 2011, a woman , making this week's the second to heavily impact traffic.
