Officers responded to a report of a large fight in the area of Leibrandt and Raymond streets at about 5:45 p.m., according to Santa Cruz police.

Arriving officers said everyone involved in the fight had already fled the scene. Witnesses said they saw a badly damaged gold-colored Honda leaving the area with a passenger who appeared to be covered in blood.

A short time later, a Honda with broken windows and slashed tires pulled into a gas station in Capitola, police said.

Two people in the car were injured, police said. One victim had been stabbed in the leg and torso, and the second victim had been struck in the head by a baseball bat.

Both were taken to a hospital and were expected to survive.

The Santa Cruz County Gang Task Force is investigating the case.
