Donations for Slain Santa Cruz Police Officers Baker, Butler Grows to $225K

Here is a breakdown of where the money came from.

Donors have raised $225,351 for the scholarship funds for the children of slain officers Butch Baker and Elizabeth Butler, according to Santa Cruz Finance Director Marcus Pimentel.

The money was donated at these sources:

Online: $64,344.34
City by mail/phone: $69,075.75
Wells Fargo: $37,321.00
Bay Federal: $54,610.00

  • Bay Federal- All branches will accept donations to the “Santa Cruz Police Officers Foundation”
  • By Mail:  809 Center Street, Room 101, Santa Cruz, CA  95060;  payable to the “City of Santa Cruz Baker/Butler Scholarship Fund”
  • By Phone: Credit card payments can be made by calling 831-420-5070 during normal City business hours (no charge to donor)

Baker and Butler were killed by suspect Jeremy Peter Goulet Feb. 26 on Branciforte Avenue. Goulet was killed by other officers in a subsequent shootout.

Thousands mourned Baker and Butler recently.

Love our communities in Santa Cruz County.We step up to the plate every time there is a crisis.Don't let the hard times keep us down or make us afraid.I think we have proven our grit and our hearts.Thank you.Hats off to the police and firemen who put their lives on the line every day to protect us.
