Driver Crashes into Capitola Avenue Business

A woman driving a Pontiac Grand Am smashed into Jones and Bones on Capitola Avenue Monday afternoon.

on Capitola Avenue is closed Monday afternoon after a 91-year-old woman struck the front of the building with her Pontiac Grand Am, Central Fire Inspector Mike DeMars told Patch.

Just before 1 p.m., the woman pulled into the driveway of the building, and "mistakenly stepped on the accelerator instead of the brake and panicked and went right into the front wall," DeMars said.

Everyone was evacuated from inside Jones and Bones, a garden and gift shop, and the building was left with its front wall pushed in, a plate glass window smashed and the door frame askew.

According to DeMars, the car's airbags deployed and the driver was transported to the hospital with facial injuries.
