Capitola Gun Take Back Coming This Weekend

Give your unwanted firearms to the police department on May 11.

Correction: An earlier version of this post indicated that the event is a buy back. Rather, it is a gun take back. Cash will not be offered.

Got unwanted firearms? Turn them in to the Capitola Police Department, no questions asked, this weekend.

On May 11, local police will be collecting guns at Shorelife Community Church — 875 Monterey Ave. in Capitola from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.

"The objective is to provide citizens with a safe place to turn in unwanted firearms," the police department said in a Facebook post. "Citizens will be allowed to enter the firearms retrieval area to voluntarily turn in weapons with no questions asked."

Police are asking that firearms be transported to the event legally, unloaded and in the trunk of a car if possible.
