Biking Duo Injured in Hit and Run Incident

Two cyclists were left injured on Soquel-San Jose Road on Saturday.

Authorities are on the look-out for a dark sedan that injured two bikers on Saturday.

The Cinco de Mayo accident took place on Soquel-San Jose Road just north of Olsen Road at 1:30 p.m., according to the Santa Cruz CHP.

The cycling pair were traveling south in single file when the car "crossed the double yellow line to pass the cyclists ... and veered back to the right and struck the front cyclist, causing him to be ejected onto the right shoulder," according to a CHP statement.

The rear biker hit the brakes to avoid the collision, but lost control and fell into the road. The vehicle continued on without stopping, and the cyclists, Daniel C. Lyons, 53, of Capitola, and James Aaron Freitas, 35, of Soquel, were taken to Valley Medical Center with what the CHP called "moderate injuries."

The CHP is now looking for an older sedan, possibly an Audi, with damage to the right front corner. Anyone with information on the incident should contact them at 831-662-0511.
