Armed Robber Arrested after Sheriff's Investigation

Miguel Angel Hernandez is accused of pointing a gun at a woman's head and stealing money from her at an ATM.

A 10-day investigation led to the arrest of Miguel A. Hernandez in Monterey County this week.

Hernandez is accused of robbing an ATM customer at gunpoint in Aptos on Jan. 24.

According to Sgt. Patrick Drimick, a man believed to be Hernandez approached the victim at Bay Federal Credit Union on Post Office Drive, held a gun to her head and demanded money. The victim complied and Hernandez, along with a partner in crime, ran away on foot.

With the help of ATM surveillance, deputies were able to identify the perpetrators' clothing, which ultimately led them to Hernandez. 

Deputies arrested Hernandez on Monday, Feb. 4 on an armed robbery charge and his arraignment was set for Wednesday. He is being held on $150,000 bail.

Detectives are still working to identify the other man involved in the robbery, Dimick said.
