Aptos Man Arrested in Stolen Property Case

Suspect attempted to collect a reward offered for the return of items stolen from a Scotts Valley construction site.

Police in Scotts Valley arrested an Aptos man Friday after he attempted to collect a reward for stolen equipment taken from a job site last November.

According to police, on Nov. 25, 2012, a land surveyor left his surveying equipment at a job site on Scotts Valley Drive. When the surveyor returned to the site, his equipment, valued at about $9,000, was gone.

The victim placed an advertisement in a local news outlet offering a reward for the stolen equipment. Police said the victim recently received a response from a man, identified by police as Morrison Dean Stanton, 46, of Aptos.

The pair agreed to meet Friday in Scotts Valley.

The victim contacted the Scotts Valley police ahead of time to inform them of the meeting. When the victim positively identified the equipment at the meeting, officers arrested Stanton, police said.

Stanton was booked into Santa Cruz County Jail on suspicion of possession of stolen property.
