Are you hearing advertising by Monsanto and other chemical and junk food companies that are trying to CONFUSE us about Prop 37 - the GMO food labeling bill? Consider the source -- Monsanto said that their product DDT was safe! We can't belive them and their deceptive advertising. Their second TV ad was pulled off the air for deception.
Prop 37 is very simple - it's just a label that will let us know if the food has genetically engineered ingredients in it so we can make an informed choice. The opposition asks "Why would one food be labeled, another food not?" The ANSWER: by law, a Prop. can only cover one issue - so this covers processed foods (70-80% of which contain GMOs), including pet food because it typically contains GMO corn and or soy.
The opposition says that the Prop. would hurts farmers. The FACT is California Farmers are FOR Prop 37. Thousands of California farmers, the National Family Farm Coalition, the Center for Farmworker Families, all of the leading businesses in the natural and sustainable food sector, and all of the leading labor groups - United Farm Workers, United Food and Commercial Workers, and California Labor Federation are saying YES ON 37.
61 other countries have passed GMO labeling laws and have NOT seen cost increases. Companies have to print labels regularly and they have 18 month to add a few words to their labels.
The Santa Cruz City Council and the County Board of Supervisors have both endorsed Prop 37. They are in touch with what we the people want. Yeah!
