I started school on Wednesday, and I can’t believe that summer is finally over. No more sleeping in, no more free time, no more late nights, no more ignoring my blogging responsibilities on Capitola-Soquel Patch and no more fun.
Instead of spending a whole day at the beach or seeing a movie at 3 a.m. because I feel like it, I have to spend a whole day in a classroom, and spend long hours studying. But on the bright side, I’m starting my senior year.
It’s funny how fast high school went by. As cliché as it sounds, it seems like yesterday I was nervously navigating my way through Aptos High on my first day trying to find my classes. And now it’s almost over. The chapter of my life where I am just a school kid is coming to a close.
I know that I’m not the only one who feels this way. My friends and I are constantly talking about our college plans, and our plans for after college (grad schools and future jobs). It’s like this final year of high school is the final stepping stone to becoming an adult, and the truth is, it’s kind of scary. I’m so used to being a kid, it’s going to be hard to adjust to the mountain of responsibilities that come with being an adult.
I hope this year will turn out to be fun. Hopefully it will prepare me for the real world. I know that there are many other seniors who are feeling the same way, so I have a message for all you out there: Go big. Enjoy your last year as a kid. Make this end of an era go out with a bang.
